Athletes Dreams Shattered for Having Late Breakfast
LATE BREAKFAST SHUTTERS DREAMS
Boaz Lalang, the Commonwealth Games 800 meters champion who is also the 2010 World Indoor silver medalist saw his Olympic dream go up in flames after making the terrible mistake of having late breakfast. Stomach complications saw him pull out of a two lap race at the 500m mark with only 200m to go. The All Africa Games Silver Medalist who is only 23 years said that he did not expect that the games would be held that early the reason why he did not take his breakfast earlier.
Lalang had been training with Bernad Langat (2007 Double World Championship) who will now be running for USA since 2006. The athlete also added that he had to rush through everything on the ill fated day. He also said that he hoped Athletics Kenya had effectively communicated about the changes that had been made to make sure he was adequately prepared for the race without any problems. Asked about what he had taken for breakfast, the young athlete said that he had eaten brown bread, doughnuts (mandazi), arrow roots and tea. He took breakfast at 8:30 am thinking that the race would be held at 1:45 pm but it was unfortunately brought forward to 10:30 am.
The big wigs however made it through including David Rudisha the world 800m champion recorder and Asbel Kiprop the World and Olympic 1,500 m champion. Rudisha dominated the heat that the he took part in and said that as a competitor he always had to be on top of his game
